In this list we rank the top ten best Will Ferrell movies of all time. This list includes movies that he has a starring or very large role in, so a few notable greats have been sadly omitted such as Zoolander and The Lego Movie. While Will Ferrell’s roles as Jacobim Mugatu and President Business are iconic, they just weren’t big enough in the films to justify being on this list. But a huge shout out honorable mention goes to both those films! Mugatu, he’s still so hot right now!
Anyone who likes stupid comedy movies probably loves Will Ferrell. I am certainly one of those people. We grew up watching the beloved funny man on Saturday Night Live and watching his career skyrocket to massive levels of fame. All the while he was making us laugh with his silly and endearing humor. Let us begin the best Will Ferrell movies list!
10. A Night at the Roxbury (1998)
So SNL brings us to the first entry on this list, which a lot of people might disagree with, A Night at the Roxbury. It’s a movie that’s hated by critics, but loved by fans and I’m sorry but I am one of those fans. It was also his first big starring role so it gets credit for helping to launch his cinematic career. It’s a stupid movie, but if it makes you laugh who cares. And it’s pretty iconic ’90s.
9. Megamind (2010)
Next is Megamind, Will Ferrell’s best voice acting leading role and a great movie for all ages.
8. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
And the most recent entry, Netflix’s silly parody of the real-life Eurovision Song Contest in which he co-stars with Rachel McAdams.
7. Elf (2003)
And how can we forget the beloved Christmas movie of Buddy the Elf, a stunted human who was raised as one of Santa’s elves and travels to New York in search of his real father. This is a sweet movie and a must watch every holiday season.
6. Blades of Glory (2007)
This movie is mind-bottling, isn’t it? You know, when things are so crazy it gets your thoughts all trapped, like in a bottle? It’s another stupid funny one, but there so many good quotes. And Chazz Michael Micahels (Will Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy’s (Jon Heder) rivalry/friendship is just perfect. The two actors have great chemistry which makes for another gold medal movie.
5. Old School (2003)
Certainly another fan favorite, coming in at number five on the top ten best Will Ferrell movies is Old School. He plays Frank Richard aka Frank the Tank and he’s the best part of this movie for sure.
4. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Another hilarious movie full of quotes that have entered our everyday lives. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are the best comedy duo of this decade hands down. They make magic together, so from now on call them Magic Man and El Diablo. Ricky Bobby comes in at number four on the list, which I guess makes him last because if you ain’t first, you’re last.
3. Stranger than Fiction (2006)
He was nominated for a Golden Globe – Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for this one, but was just beaten out by Borat (which is fair enough). This still is an entertaining and very original movie. It’s quite unlike most of his other work, but in a good, unique way.
2. Step Brothers (2008)
Another Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly instant classic full of iconic quotes. Brennan Huff and Dale Doback are both lazy, unemployed grown ass men who still live with their parents when they become step brothers and hilarity ensues… “Did we just become best friends?” In the end this movie also has great message about following your dreams and growing up without losing your inner child.
1. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
And *drum roll please* coming in at number one is of course, the man, the myth, the legend… Ron Burgundy! “I don’t know how to put this but I’m kind of a big deal. People know me. I’m very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.” So. Many. Good. Quotes.
