LOL! Anne Thériault tweeted this genius sarcastic historical thread about Cleopatra VII Philopator, queen of the Ptolemaic Empire talking to Mark Antony and Julius Caesar:
thank you for redeeming her, i thought she was so cool as a kid, but then all i heard learning about her in history was “she was a $lut, a cheat, stupid, and dramatic” “such a bad mom, killing herself and leaving her kids imprisoned”
like
idk if i misread it but im pretty sure the context for the snake thing was that she was TAKEN CAPTIVE and about to be PARADED IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE ROMAN EMPIRE IN CHAINS, and then probably forced to be some douchebags concubine or tortured/killed because she was an egyptian queen, can we not shame her for not wanting to be tortured, possibly r@p3d, and/or killed?
maybe i misunderstood the context or the way that the roman empire worked idk
anyway thanks for giving me a reason to like her again, i still thought she was a cool historical figure but couldnt name WHY i thought she was cool if asked.
My dudes, check out history of original Kleopatra, sister of Alexander the Great, you won’t regret it.
