Labyrinth is a beloved movie that many of us grew up with & this fan fiction backstory for it is wonderful. It’s such a magical fantasy world that tumblr user Glamdamnit‘s sister once asked her if the events of Labyrinth are meant to be Sarah dreaming, or are they real? Her primary reaction was that she shouldn’t put that much thought into any children’s movie (or any instance of David Bowie in tight pants). But she ended up putting so much much thought into this that it will blow your mind:
So why is David Bowie kidnapping a child from an underage Jennifer Connelly?

I love this theory. All I would want to see worked in is the Sarah/Tobiah pairing from the Book of Tobit (canonical in some versions of the Bible but not in others). But that seems like it would be easy enough (switch out Asmodeus for Jareth and there you go?).
Why didn’t Jareth just kidnap the first Sarah?
Because someone has to ask for him to be able to act. He can convince Sarahs to ask him to take their annoying little brothers away, but he can’t influence anyone else to ask him to take a Sarah away.
What if the reason hoggle seems to be such a crank and doesn’t really like jareth. The only goblin who doesn’t seem to like their king also looks to possibly be the oldest. He knows how the labyrinth works and the ways through it, he knows how the magic about it functions, so many things that he has no real buisness knowing from what we see of him, and he and jareth evidently have a personal history. Furthermore, why does he immediately pity Sarah? Nobody else cares until they hear what happened. Why does he care immediately, even if it takes some encouragement for him to help? What I’m saying is… What if he was the first goblin? What if he was the first sarah’s little brother?
