Today’s “humans are space orcs” post is about an alien trying to pass themselves as a human, but getting caught in the “uncanny valley”. Coined by robotics professor Masahiro Mori in 1970, the uncanny valley explores the unsettling sensation humans experience when encountering humanoid entities that closely resemble real people but still possess subtle, almost imperceptible differences. This valley represents a point where familiarity turns to eeriness. It creates a delicate balance between human-like attributes and an innate unease. Anyway, here is the story written by nerdybluephoenix:

There’s an interesting debate as to why we experience the “Uncanny Valley”. Corpses are one take (as in the story). Another is that it’s a residual sense left over from when there used to be other humans on the planet. Remember, there were other humans, people who weren’t us, not that long ago in the grand scheme of time. Go back less than 50,000 years, and there were a bunch of people who weren’t the same as people.
