  1. Spock is “somehow in on the truth” because he’s half-human, half-Vulcan and possesses, in his words, “basic observational skills” (which may actually be impressively strong). He’s figured out by halfway through the pilot what’s really going on and judging accordingly. The version where they’re all Vulcans is alternately offensive and cathartic to him (as a half-human judged by the Vulcans), and he thinks the version with all humans is kind of stupid because any Vulcan (or even anyone raised by Vulcans) would see through it immediately.

        1. Nah, Kirk is the show’s creator, in that he decided to actually do this after McCoy gave him the idea during a drinking session. And then Spock overheard them talking about it and said, “I want in” (or whatever verbose Vulcan equivalent he used) and that was the point of no return.
McCoy gets creator credit for a) coming up with the original idea and b) having to work more closely with Executive Producer Spock to make it a reality.
…I love the wacky stuff the people on this site come up with.
