Apparently there is a whole YouTube subculture for the MRE taste testing community. A Meal, Ready-to-Eat (MRE) is a self-contained, pre-packaged meal designed for individuals in situations where traditional food preparation is not possible, such as military field operations, emergency scenarios, or outdoor activities like camping. Each MRE provides a full meal, typically including an entrée, side dish, dessert, crackers or bread, a spread like peanut butter or cheese, a powdered beverage mix, and accessories like utensils, napkins, and condiments. Many MREs also come with a flameless ration heater, allowing the food to be warmed without a stove or open flame. Designed to have a long shelf life and withstand extreme conditions, MREs are lightweight, portable, and nutritionally balanced to meet the energy demands of users in challenging environments.
