This reminds me of Chris Clairemont’s criticism of “Stately Wayne Manor” and Batman is set up so that the writers don’t have to handle side characters.
It is utter nonsense that Alfred can take care of the whole estate without anyone else, and it moreover it kills opportunities for interesting relationships for Bruce.
Originally there was a cook as well, but she was somewhat older than Alfred and her dark secret was that she was the mother of Joe Chill the man who killed Bruce’s parents. She passed away before Bruce found the man who killed his parents. Its not that there aren’t other staff, but in a properly run household of this type the staff other than the upper level (Butler, Cook, etc.) are practically invisible, there work should be done in such a way and with such timing that they are never seen.
