This thread starts off by comparing Disney/Pixar style gendered animation and goes on to talk about the Uncanny Valley effect, among other things. This thread has everything and is a seriously wild ride:

Dead bodies generally fall into the uncanny valley, and the self-preservative logic behind that isn’t too hard to see. We can see this in other species, too, many of which similarly have an aversion to dead of their own kind, but let’s focus on our own species for now. Imagine you’re a primitive homo sapiens and you come across a dead person. WHY are they dead? What killed them? Was it disease? A predator? If any environmental factor was the cause of death, then a “gut” revulsion that makes you be somewhere else potentially protects you from whatever unalived your fellow human. The uncanny valley isn’t an evolved defense against some particular hazard long gone — it’s a an evolved defense against ALL the hazards.
