This is an interesting take on the body positivity movement vs fat liberation. Sofie Hagen posted these powerful tweets about being a fat liberationist, which she expands on a little bit first here:
“I just want to say this. I think we are much more comfortable with “body positivity” because it’s positive. Everyone being happy in their bodies, wearing bikinis, dancing and reclaiming space. And those things *are* inherently positive. And great. Loving yourself feels amazing. I recommend it.
But – someone taught us to hate our bodies and fat bodies in general. It’s in our adverts, our tv shows, our (lack of) legislation, in our doctors’ offices; it’s ingrained in our system. We need THAT to change.
Most people still believe that fat is unhealthy. Most left-wing people still don’t include fatphobia in their supposedly intersectional fights. Most people still think there is a limit to how much autonomy a fat person should be allowed. Most people still can’t find fat people attractive.
Because of the system. That’s what needs to change. I don’t care if you love your body. I care that they stop teaching us to hate our bodies.”

To reiterate what she said about fat liberation: “It’s because of the system. That’s what needs to change. I don’t care if you love your body. I care that they stop teaching us to hate our bodies.”
