Check out this neat series of Carl Sagan quotes envisioned by AI (artificial intelligence)! These images were generated using Midjourney. No additional prompts were used aside from the Carl Sagan quotes listed and the aspect ratio. We did however rerun the algorithm for each quote until we got a fitting image. So here are some of Carl Sagan’s famous quotes about the universe and humanity visualized by AI (what a crazy time we live in!):
1. “Every one of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies, you will not find another.”
2. “Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality.”
3. “The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena.”
4. “Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic.”
5. “If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.”
6. “We are made of starstuff.”
7. “A universe that is unknowable is no fit place for a thinking being.”
8. “One glance at a book and you hear the voice of another person, perhaps someone dead for 1,000 years. To read is to voyage through time.”
9. “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.”
10. “For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.”
11. “We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.”
12. “Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs.”
13. “The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”
14. “You’re an interesting species. An interesting mix. You’re capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares.”

Carl never said “Somewhere something incredible”. It sounds nothing like how he speaks. It’s so vague, and Carl was never ever vague. His own family has repudiated the misattribution.
Also this is very likely wrong. It’s not found in the TV show nor could I find it in the book: “The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”
What he does say in the TV show is this:
“The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the COSMOS to know itself.”
Anybody who ever heard “A Glorious Dawn” knows that line well.
