The Magic School Bus Rides Again animated tv show was released with some controversy, but it recently went viral on twitter when people realized all over again that they had changed all the beloved diverse characters. Many of the changes were completely unnecessary and basically remove some of their diversity.
With the initial announcement and the release of its trailer back in 2017, there was resistance to the new art style, absence of Lily Tomlin as Ms. Frizzle, and fear it would not live up to the original series. AOL accused the show of giving Ms. Frizzle a nose job, which they clearly did. Despite this speculation, the series has been critically acclaimed upon release. Common Sense Media deemed the show a worthy successor to its 1990s sister series, praising its gender and ethnic diversity and its commitment to teaching children about STEM subjects. That all sounds great, and those are thing we should be championing, but the tweets below highlight some of the unfortunate changes to many of the characters:

Pfffft! You are overreacting. For one the teacher in the new series isn’t miss frizzle she was promoted and her sister has taken over.
And two every animator is different don’t hate on someone because of their art style.
Yea…uh uh…sure. Whatever you say. It’s just “artistic style” that Mrs Frizzle and her sister aren’t the same ethnicity and the two black kids are suddenly less so… 😂 Do you actually buy your own crap?
Pffft hahaha! Have you ever seen pictures of twins who are the opposite of each other? Cuz there are pictures of real twins where one was black with dark coloring and her twin was white with strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes and that was not the first time I’ve seen or heard of that very thing happening plus siblings where one is very clearly showing there Italian heritage and the other full sibling is very very Irish. Clearly you don’t know how genetics work. However, that being said, I don’t doubt they purposely made the two black kids lighter. Why, no idea 🤷♀️ it could be whitewashing, it could be that the new artists didn’t like the specific tone of the original or weren’t good at coloring black people themselves, idk. Tho it’s likely whitewashing.
