I have not bought new systems for almost 20 years. Also my most recent machines, both laprop and desktop are 10-ish years old. Recent i5 / i7systems with 8gb of ram, amd or nvidia gpu/graphics chip, and SSD (solid state drive) will be fine for general use, some graphics work, and older games (Skyrim era).
