This is a cute little story written in response to this funny shower thought asking why ghosts don’t just leave notes if they can interact with the corporeal world!? If you like this story you can read even more here!
…It’s been almost fifty years. I’ll be forced to “graduate” with this year’s Special Needs Kindergarden class, even though Eloise can see inside me and has kept me superlatively healthy. At 72, I’m stronger and more fit than our new hires.
We’ve taught 2,241 children reading, writing, empathy, courtesy, kindness, and that they will meet many people who know… …strange… things, but are sane and trustworthy. Even if I never managed to buy a suburban ranch – I haven’t even paid off this relic yet – it’s been worth leaving futures trading for Early Intervention all those years ago.
I tried to get enthused about volunteer tutoring at the library. Tonight, however, I found a lovely poem on the handles of my exercise bike (I’m so proud of her!), about what it was like being a Colonial midwife.
Under it was a diagram for cutting out a “bed-gown”. It doesn’t match any pattern I can find online.
One of my first students became a senior editor for Baen. I’ll still tutor, at the library or here; but it doesn’t look like I’ll be retiring anytime soon.
