‘Tulpa’ is a brilliant little concept out of the mystical end of Buddhism. The term refers to a manifested thoughtform; an imaginary entity that has been imagined so long and so hard that it actually starts manifesting in reality. Like if your imaginary friend suddenly became able to interact with the world for real.
So maybe what’s in this comic is some little kid’s imaginary friend that got left behind, thus explaining the Pokemon fixation, and the like of cartoons, and the desire for inclusion.
I just found this going down a FB rabbit hole, and I adore the fact that she asked the apparition its name and it replied ‘tul’ ‘pa’, which IS so self aware that it might in fact be a tulpa, and as the protagonist theorized, might never have been a ghost at all…
