What’s he up to now? 12? 13? It is really hard to keep track of the BatFamily these days. And that isn’t even counting the ones who AREN’T kids like BatWoman!
The New52 soft reboot began 5 years after the superheroes emerged, only Batman somehow had already had 4 Robins, so I always assumed that they intended exactly this backstory—that he had been operating covertly for several years before Superman first appeared. And as such, nobody would know about his various sidekicks/adoptees. So I think this AU was basically canon, for as long as that particular iteration of DC lasted
