
This insightful thread about how ridiculous “modesty” culture is was tweeted by writer, therapist, and activist Josh Weed. “Modesty” culture refers to when women are told they have to dress in such a way that doesn’t provoke sexual response in men. We see this type of sexism in dress codes, in the court of public opinion, and in assault / rape trials. Women are often blamed and shamed for being assaulted because of what they were wearing. That is part of rape culture. We also see “slut-shaming” of women in all different aspects of life. We need to change this. This is also why those same straight men are soooo terrified of non-straight men…because, in their eyes, it means someone will be looking at THEM the way they look at women…and that idea correctly scares the piss out of them.
