This is a great science post filled with lots of proof that evolution is real! Evolution is the process by which living organisms change over successive generations, primarily through the inheritance of traits from parent to offspring. It’s a fundamental principle in biology and explains the diversity of life on Earth. The concept was first proposed by Charles Darwin in his seminal work “On the Origin of Species” published in 1859.
Evolution occurs through several mechanisms, including natural selection, genetic drift, gene flow, and mutation. Natural selection is perhaps the most well-known mechanism, where individuals with advantageous traits are more likely to survive and reproduce. They then pass those traits on to their offspring. Over time, these advantageous traits become more common in the population. This leads to adaptations that better suit the organism to its environment.
Through the process of evolution, species can diverge from common ancestors, leading to the development of new species over long periods of time. This accounts for the incredible diversity of life forms we see today and helps explain how organisms have adapted to various environments and niches throughout Earth’s history.

I teach a watered down version of this to my math students. I explain that I’m always annoyed when some says “evolution is just a theory” or ” CO2 causing climate change is just one theory”. A theory/theorem is something that is or can be proven true! If it has yet to be proven, it’s called a conjecture or hypothesis (there’s a slight difference: a conjecture is generally something we have no idea of being true or false, while a hypothesis (at least in mathematics) is something we sort of know is true but can’t actually show why yet).
