Prosecutors are now seeking the death penalty for Luigi Mangione. In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know, Mangione was arrested and charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4, 2024. Investigators identified Mangione as the gunman after a five-day manhunt, during which he was eventually apprehended at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Reports suggest that his motivation stemmed from frustration over the healthcare system, particularly regarding his own struggles with chronic pain and insurance coverage for his spinal surgery
The public reaction to Mangione’s case has been highly polarized. While many view him as a terrorist due to the premeditated nature of the crime and his indictment under terrorism-related charges, others have hailed him as a “folk hero.” His actions resonated with people frustrated by corporate greed and the healthcare system, leading to a wave of online support, fundraisers for his legal defense, and even the sale of merchandise featuring his name.
Luigi Mangione is facing both state and federal charges, with federal prosecutors now seeking the death penalty. Despite his arrest and imprisonment, he has continued to receive public support, with his legal team launching a website to update his followers on his case: Luigi Mangione Legal Defense Information.

I’m not saying he’s a folk hero but I don’t feel much sympathy for a one percenter insurance CEO. The mass shooters listed are not a threat to government or industry, they are “only” threatening the public. Luigi on the other hand threatens and brings focus to the establishment. They will put him down like a dog and never mention him again. Now maybe picking off CEOs may be a little much but we do need to bring those bastards squirming in the light like the insects they are and bring change to our system where we have the same rights not privileges of health and security.
