PSA About The Word Neurodivergent

This is a PSA from sherlocksflataffect, the coiner of the term “neurodivergent”. Neurodivergent just means a brain that diverges. Being neurodivergent means having a brain that works differently from the average or “neurotypical” person. That is all it means. It is not another tool of exclusion. It is specifically a tool of inclusion.

  1. A bit rich to, on a Tumblr page, claim to be the original founder/user/inventor of a word and then not providing any sources or proofs that it’s true. 🙄

    1. not really, though?? theyre not claiming to have founded the original terms, only neurodivergent as opposed to only “neurodiverse” or “neurodiversity” which, if you look at most science/psychology books, are used in reference to what is really neurodivergence. its very very plausible that a random person could have seen the fault in the current terminology and changed it, very very plausible. things spread around, its not that insane. plus im sure if it were wrong, it would have been disproved many times.

  2. One thing I’ve noticed: when Kassianne was new(ish) on the Internet, she thought only that she had Rett syndrome, which had only been observed by her boyfriend when she was already a young adult. Now she has an ‘official’ diagnosis of Asperger’s disorder made when she was three, a time when such a diagnosis was very rarely made in boys, never mind girls, and it’s since been joined by a multitude of other conditions she really should have noticed or been informed about long before she first claimed them. Anyone else detect the stink of Ganser syndrome here?
