Response to Feminist Critique of Cinderella

marciabrady disputes the feminist critique that Cinderella was a subservient doormat who lacks agency and waits for a man to save her throughout the course of her film. I’ve heard similar claims and tend to agree with her response.

While Cinderella may not be the most feminist Disney Princess movie, she was not just out looking for a Prince. Really she just wanted to go to a party and who can blame her!

And for the record the lyrics to the Cheetah Girls song “Cinderella” are:

🎵I don’t wanna be like Cinderella
Sittin’ in a dark old dusty cellar
Waiting for somebody, to come and set me free
