Rhetoric Around Rape Allegations “Ruining Lives”

There seems to be more rhetoric around rape allegations “ruining lives” than there actually is about how being raped can destroy your life. Nicole Bedera posted these tweets about how rape ruins the lives of the victims, while the rapist gets sympathy for “false accusations” from a culture that is happy to vilify victims and exonerate rapists. Nicole is a sociologist. She is studying how our social structures make sexual violence more likely to occur.

  1. Lies do ruin lives. Not entirely sure if this storyline is to prove otherwise in a very general sense or if it is calling out the minority of scumbags that would play the pity for a falsehood card. Male or female. Particularly when their lies ruin any chance of help for real victims who cannot cope.
