This is a very great opinion post about how the female horror/monster artist community focuses a lot on teeth, mouth, and consumptive violence. There’s an interesting possible reason for this which they explain in this thread. This also goes well with The Deeper Meaning of Alien Chestbursters post.
Gender is part of it, but it seems to me there are a lot of sharp teeth and consumption in all horror because we’re small soft-skinned creatures who evolved alongside a lot of large predators. We’re wired to be scared by Things That Will Eat Us.
