Lynda Carter, the actress who played Wonder Woman, tweeted this beautiful little tribute thanking the late Nichelle Nichols. Nichelle Nichols was an American actress, singer, and voice artist best known for her portrayal of Lieutenant Uhura in the original Star Trek tv series and its subsequent movies.
She made her television debut in the 1960s on the series The Lieutenant, where she met Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. He offered her the role of Lieutenant Uhura, a groundbreaking role as one of the first Black women to play a prominent role on a tv series. Nichols’ portrayal of Uhura was praised for its positive representation of Black people and women, and she became a trailblazer for diversity in tv and film. She also played a key role in breaking down racial barriers in entertainment.
In addition to her work on Star Trek, Nichols has appeared in numerous other television shows and movies, including Heroes, Batman: The Animated Series, and Futurama. She is also an accomplished singer, having released several albums throughout her career. Nichols has received numerous accolades for her contributions to entertainment, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.
