This is a beautiful version of the “don’t tell the faeries your full name or they will take your name” mythology / fantasy trope. This little story is about a young transgender person who meets a fae in a forest clearing.
I’ve heard before that the reason we have middle names is because the faeries cannot steal a child if they do not know their full name. So remember not to tell any strangers you meet in the woods your name, unless of course it never was your true name and you don’t want to keep it!
