This post about how the film and tv industries should have better labor laws is pretty spot on. There’s always so many of these incidents happening. I mean just off the top of my head I can think of the recent accusations that Amazon’s Lord of the Rings set in New Zealand is unsafe. And Hannah Waddingham, who played Septa Unella on Game of Thrones waterboarding torture scene fiasco. She described it as “other than childbirth, it was the worst day of my life”. And there was also stuntwoman Joi Harris, who was killed in a motorcycle crash on the set of Deadpool 2. And also stuntwoman Olivia Jackson, who lost her arm and spent 17 days in a coma after a crash on the set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. I could go on because these incidents are extremely commonplace and they really should not be.
And on top of all that stuff that makes the news, this post goes into all the unseen causalities of having people work insane hours non-stop. It’s time we made some changes because this is not ok. Our entertainment is not worth the trauma and certainly not worth people’s lives. RIP to all the talented people who’ve been lost.
