lena-in-a-red-dress posted this epic appreciation thread about how The Mummy (1999) is actually a great feminist movie! She went off on this rant in response to a feminist podcast slamming it. I can see how at first glance it could seem sexist or cliché, but it was more a sign of the times the movie was set in. And if you look deeper the movie does have great scenes and characters. Anyway, this also goes well with the This is What Makes The Mummy (1999) So Great post. The Mummy fandom is really coming through with all these great posts! I think it’s safe to say that The Mummy has achieved cult classic movie status at this point.
Movie info: The Mummy is a 1999 American film written and directed by Stephen Sommers. It is a remake of the 1932 film of the same title and stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and Kevin J. O’Connor, with Arnold Vosloo as the mummy. The film follows adventurer Rick O’Connell as he travels to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, with a librarian and her older brother, where they accidentally awaken Imhotep, a cursed high priest from the reign of the Pharaoh Seti I of 1290 B.C.
