I prefer the officer selection version: instead of a trolley, you are steering a raft in rapid water. You come around a bend, and the river splits, with jagged rock ahead. Left or right?
It doesn’t matter what you choose – but any delay means you get killed on those rocks dead ahead. It’s called “indecision paralysis” and it’s something you Do Not Want in leaders.
The whole idea of looking whose to blame is missing the point that, while we’re pointing fingers, people die who could have been saved.
