Whenever we post about The Rocky Horror Picture Show we get a few comments similar to this one, claiming that it is transmisogynistic and should be cancelled. But the thing, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is an important part of trans and queer history. When it came out in the 70’s it was revolutionary. Of course now it would be tone deaf since times have changed. But we can learn from it and evolve. This post goes into why this movie was so important at the time:

You left out the part where teenage straight kids in the 70’s would go watch a movie filled with gay characters and learn a tiny bit of acceptance for people that they had never (knowingly) met.
RHPS
RHPS was important to what-there-was of a kink community. It was the one place where they could let their freak flag fly and not feel judged.
I’m not sure where you got that the writer of the Rocky Horror Picture Show was trans cause the creator, RIchard o’ Brian, said some openly transphobic stuff, saying basically trans women are not real women. So yeah….. Maybe it is time we leave it behind. It used to be important for people, but now it is time to move on – like people did with Harry Potter for instance, which I remind people was important for many, including queer people. But again, we recognized it’s problems (and how shitty the creator was.)
I would also like to add there are plenty of queer medias that despite their age now still largely hold up much better than the film or stage play does. Age is not a really good excuse.
