The Wifey Material Complex – Comic

Lily O’Farrell of @VulgaDrawings recently updated this comic of hers that explains “The Wifey Material Complex” which is just another way to judge and slut-shame women. It’s also know as the Madonna–whore complex in psychiatry. Here’s what she had to say about it:

“Nearly two years ago I drew a cartoon about an attitude that I’d always referred to as the Wifey Material Complex. As a v sex positive person, and a person who is mostly hetero and dates hetero men, the WMC was what I would come up against again and again. It still sometimes happens, but less so now I’m getting better at finding communities where people who wear their sexual history with pride are embraced ❤️ But when it does happen, it really fkin sucks. My style and tone have developed a lot since then, so felt it needed another go.”

  1. Not to coopt this but 100% true of men too. The author of this story spent a lot of time and words making it clear that all women in all situations deserve safety and respect in bed and out. I would ask the same for men. If you are going to pretend that men shouldn’t feel safe or respected in bed and in daily life when related to sexuality… mutual respect is deserved nay required if you want to receive, it no excuses.

    1. Here we go. People like this author has made other comments making the struggles of men well known. It’s also explained that women are target by men all the time. Women have to fear for their lives walking down the street at night. Do you fear for yourself in a bar or in the streets at night being a man? I doubt it. Do you have to hold your car keys in-between your fingers when you walk to your car for protection? Do you risk being murdered for rejecting a man? No. So drop your straw hat argument. This isn’t about men, not everything has to involve men. We are talking about what women go through every single day.

Were you catcalled by adult men at 15 years old? Were you followed home from school by strangers because you wore a skirt that goes up to your knees to school? Have you been asked by random men as a middle schooler if they can give you a ride?

      No? Then stop it
