So it turns out that the Stormtrooper whose armor Luke stole in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope was gay and having an affair with Grand Moff Tarkin. This is completely canonical and from the short story “Of MSE-6 And Men” in the anthology “From a Certain Point of View“. TK-421 owns a mouse droid and is in an affair with a superior officer, who turns out to Tarkin. Here’s more info:

From what I can tell, the publication date of the anthology is 2017, meaning it was post Disney acquisition by several years. The House of Mouse famously wiped out the Expanded Universe / relegated it to Legends in 2014 and then replaced it with their New Canon.
Thus, somewhere somebody collecting a paycheque from Disney gave this story the stamp of approval.
