I can’t believe this is something that wheelchair users actually have to deal with, but due to the ignorance of many people it is necessary for them to defend their space through deterrents. You’d really think it’s common sense not to touch someone’s wheelchair without consent, but here we are. And if you don’t believe this is a real problem just read this thread titled Please Don’t Touch Me – A Response to #JustAskDontGrab. Or check out the hashtag #JustAskDontGrab on X. You’ll be surprised how often this happens. It would be like just walking along and some stranger picks you up. Don’t do it.
