Why is Sailor Moon Naked? – Usagi’s Strongest Form

So some people were wondering why Sailor Moon is naked in some scenes from the anime (you can see the example video below). People were of course concerned about nudity and Usagi’s human age. Here are some comments from this r/sailormoon thread with thoughts on the issue:

1. Sailor Moon is a being that spans dimension and time. When Usagi transforms, and in this moment she is tapping into that “purest form” of herself. Kind of like the episodes when she taps into her Princess Serena talents when she is Sailor Moon, but on a way higher level.
2. Nudity has a way different cultural context in Japanese media. Its not always sexual in nature, and public baths are normal. American media has Puritan values and this kind of nudity would understandably be a scandal in the US.

Nakedness is symbolic. It’s not implied sexuality but of her innocence. This scene for Usagi is innocence reaching out without hesitation. She’s vulnerable here, no armor, no weapon, just an offer of friendship.samoogle
