LOL! But seriously 100% this. What Michelle Wolf had to say on The Daily Show about “woman movies” when Wonder Woman was first released. She explains how we’ll know when women are finally equal at the box office:
Except superman and batman aren’t some symbol of masculinity or “maleness”. Wonder woman is. It was like her whole thing. Now say someone like Catwoman, Supergirl, Jean Grey, Storm, they are women and superheros but their core concept was not as a feminist symbol.
I think its telling that you’re seeing Wonder Woman as ‘a superpowered representation of femininity’ but you’re not seeing Superman as the same thing. Superman is all muscles and strength and invulnerability but he’s not a symbol of 1930s era masculinity??
Now say someone like Wolverine, he’s a man and a superhero but his core concept is not a masculine ideal but instead his concept is *knives*.
Well, more like his concept is *amazing regenerating powers* that enable him to produce said ‘knives’, which punch through the skin and tissue of his hands every time they extend, and leave wounds when they retract. He heals from almost anything, we forget about it, because of an innate healing factor. (unlike Deadpool, whose regeneration is a developed superpower, but that’s a different topic altogether)
Yes, Wolverine has adamantium in him, but it was put there, because his healing factor made him a rare specimen who could survive the process.

It’s true. When you hear the name “Super’ “Man” there’s no symbol of masculinity there at all
you missed the subtext, but thats okay, its not for everyone. only for those willing to look below the surface.

“Except superman and batman aren’t some symbol of masculinity or “maleness”. Wonder woman is.” Wonder Woman is a symbol of masculinity or maleness?
News to me.
