A Guide to Cancelling JKR While Keeping Harry Potter

We posted this guide to cancelling JKR since we’ve received some messages asking us to stop posting Harry Potter content due to J. K. Rowling’s transphobic views. But we still want to support the talented artists who created the cosplays, fan art, comics, and fan fic, etc. So we are making sure not to promote any official Harry Potter merch, while still allowing the fandom stuff. The Gayly Prophet created this helpful guide for people who love Harry Potter but can’t reconcile that with J. K. Rowling’s very public and unapologetic transphobia:

  1. A translator keeps getting money from books that are read from the library; I assume the writer (JKR in this case) does as well?

  2. I agree with all of these except don’t go to the theme park and thats just because you are telling people who are part of fandoms in no way shape or form related to jk rowling that they shouldn’t be allowed to go experience things related to their fandom because rowling is a garbage human being is a bit much.

  3. Yeaaaah….look, I don’t agree with her opinion and views, but I’m not going to cancel someone just because their beliefs are different than mine. She has every right to support whatever agenda she feels fit as long as actual extreme physical harm is not being brought about by her hand (i.e. genocide, etc.). She might have bad views, but she also created the fandom that got me through growing up and I will always respect the work she has done with HP. I will always support the LGBTQ+ community, but I won’t help destroy someone’s career simply for them not supporting them too. Even most of my friends that are part of the community (trans friends included!) don’t really care as much as the cis/straight community does about this. It’s obviously your choice to not support her, but I’m not going to stop living my life and experiencing everything HP because the author used her own voice for her own beliefs.
