Here are some things I did not learn until I was in my 40s:
–A single banana is called a finger. A group of fingers attached to the same stem is called a hand. When you buy bananas, separate them from the hand; they ripen more slowly and last longer as single fingers.
–If you rent a vehicle and need to fill the gas tank, the fuel icon on the dashboard has an arrow next to it that points to the side of vehicle where the tank opening is,
–When driving on expressways, signs for upcoming exits are posted on the side of the road where the exit is so you know which lane you should be in.
Best advice I can give anyone entering the Adult world? Stay the fuck away from credit cards!! Seriously, these companies will promise you the moon to get you to sign up for one. DON’T DO IT!!! The day you turn 18, every bank, store, and anybody else is gonna offer you these amazing offers. Get our new card and get 100 dollars off your first purchase! No interest in your first year! Yeah, maybe so but they want to get you hooked. They know damned well if they can get you hooked and paying interest they make that money back a thousand times over. Debit card, that’s a different thing. It comes right out of your bank account. It’s basically like paying cash.
Another thing. Pay cash! Use a debit card, whatever. But DO NOT take out a loan to buy a car, furniture or anything else besides maybe a house. There are other ways to build a good credit score besides a credit card, so don’t fall for that line either.
Good luck, and welcome to your new life 🙂
Except that the system is stacked against this. If you don’t get a credit card and pay it off, you will not have much credit history, and that will mean that if you do need a loan eventually, say for a car or house, you either won’t be able to get it or you will be paying a higher interest rate.
Plus credit cards have more protections when someone illegally uses them, and they will. Even if you get your money back with a debit card, it may take a while at a time when you need it.
Basically, it’s set up so you have to play in the credit system. Just do so in small doses and responsibly.
There’s nothing wrong with generic ketchup and peanut butter. Some generic pasta sauces are good, Walmart’s, surprisingly, is excellent (stick to the one that replaces Prego). Buy generic medicine, but avoid generic cough syrup. Generics skimp on the taste.
Bleach works really well with Mr. Clean (or a generic version of it) or even dish soap (it’s my go to).
Vinegar diluted in water is the best degreaser for countertops that I’ve found.
People who recommend only buying things with cash don’t understand that that’s not always possible. You HAVE to have a car in a lot of places. Shop around at different banks to find the best rate. Then get the best car you can afford. Then don’t skimp on maintenance. It’s much cheaper than the major repairs that you’ll need if you do.
Get 1 credit card and set up autopay for those bills. Then set up auto payments on your credit card and hide the card.
Sorry, noticed my last statement is unclear:
1. Get 1 credit card.
2. Pick 1 or 2 services that you pay for monthly.
3. Use your 1 credit card to set up auto pay for that service.
4. Set up auto payments for your credit card.
5. Hide your credit card so you aren’t tempted to use it every day.
