Being Gay in the Military in the 40s

Though being gay in the 40s was hard, being gay in the military was easier, and pretty common. Especially for lesbians. That’s not to say that being gay in the military during the 1940s wasn’t a challenging experience. This period sadly marked a time when prevailing societal attitudes and military policies were largely hostile towards homosexuality. But, as always, “history is infinitely gayer than a lot of people want to admit.”

  1. I reminded a rather narrow-minded, extremely right leaning politician of the fact that during WW2, Australia had gay and lesbian soldiers amongst its numbers.
    His response?
He blocked me. (I’m not the first, nor the last he’s blocked for using facts against his feelings).
