Explaining ADHD and Executive Dysfunction

Pediatric speech-language pathologist and mother of an son with ADHD Jana O’Connor tweeted this thread that perfectly explains ADHD and Executive Dysfunction. If you don’t know, executive function is a broad group of mental skills that enable people to complete tasks and interact with others. An executive function disorder can impair a person’s ability to organize themselves and control their behavior. Basically it makes getting things done a lot harder. You can learn more about it in this Executive Function Disorder post. It also often goes hand in hand with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). Here is the thread:

  1. Damn, I only now realised why I tend to fail at some task. Even though I was diagnosed with ADHD in autism spectrum when I was 6 and only after 20 years of living, thanks to this post I understood that I never visualized the end product or how something should look done. And I don’t have any idea how to visualize that.
