Yea, I said it, geek culture has always been deeply political and generally left-wing. I’m not sure why this is so hard for some people to understand. We all grew up watching and reading these stories and the messages were pretty clear, but obviously it needs to be said. Every day some dude shows up to demand we “keep politics off our page”, as if they weren’t deeply ingrained in all our media. There’s also the “what is this SJW crap?” dudes, as if many superheroes and geek icons weren’t literal social justice warriors. Anyway, Kenny Boyle articulated this better than I ever could:
