  1. Further on JRRT and toddlers: In the recently published Nature of Middle-earth, you can see Tolkien playing around with different ideas about elf reproduction. At one point he had female elves being pregnant for ten years, later reduced to one year (just a little longer than humans, IOW). I get the feeling he showed the first version to Edith and she told him, “You are NOT doing that!”
