This is an extensive post about rescue pigeons and doves and how they used to be considered pets. Sadly rescue pigeons and doves cannot be released back into the wild as they are not wild animals. Concerning Rats with Wings — Rats are also extremely intelligent, fairly easy to tame (maybe not to the extent of pigeons, but they have learned to live alongside humans) and are much cleaner than people think. So pigeons ARE rats with wings, if only in that they have been the victims of similar smear campaigns.
