Love that the one person didn’t get it because “Sliced bread wasn’t invented”. Like they thought that before presliced bread was sold in stores, no one sliced it themselves and just sat down and took a bite out of a whole loaf of bread.
There was an ad campaign called ‘Toast and Things’ where there was a toaster with a fancy tray, sort of like a charcuterie board with better divisions, and the toaster manufacturer recommended inviting people over for toast with various toppings.
Depression era ads were bizarre. (Or was it WWII?-rationing ads were weird too.)
