The Husband Stitch

The husband stitch is a surgical procedure in which one or more additional sutures than necessary are used to repair a woman’s vaginal tears and episiotomies after childbirth. Many women have been unwitting victims of female genital mutilation. This medical procedure is sometimes performed on women post-childbirth without their consent. Most women don’t even know it happened to them.

The purpose of the extra stitch is to tighten the woman’s vagina and increase sexual pleasure for her male partner. Many women are not asked for their consent before the extra stitch is sewn. There can be adverse side effects of the husband stitch. Sewing the husband stitch is medical malpractice. It is not an accepted medical procedure, and performing this procedure on a woman without her permission is considered medical negligence. But this sexist procedure is still happening anyway:
