This post about understanding statistics is super helpful for people who may be confused about how they work. Combining math and wording like this can be very confusing especially when we’re usually just used to hearing simple percentages. So while this may be painfully obvious to some, not everyone know this about statistics:

For the example of 0.5% increasing to 1%, you could say the probability doubles, increases by 100%, increases to 1% or increases by half a percentage point. I think in most cases the last is least subject to misinterpretation if you know what the initial value is. The second is to be avoided because it involves percentages of percentages.
