If memory and the internet serves me correctly the problem is that the failure did not in fact lie in the eating of the gum or the falling into the chocolate river. The reason Charlie in the end won was because he refused to betray Willie Wonka’s trust by giving stolen candy to Arthur Slugworth,
Did she give him candy, though? Not seen it in a long while, so she may have, I don’t recall for sure, but as I recall she did in fact not. If that’s your criteria, she’s still more deserving.
He did break steal because his grandpa convinced him to drink the pop that was specifically off limits…
So, the reason she should’ve won is she shouldn’t be held accountable for her actions. Sounds about right.
