Alexandra Erin tweeted this insightful thread about the current state of our economy. Basically, like she says, top heavy capitalism will collapse under its own weight every time:

    1. After reading this, my immediate thought was ok, what’s the counter argument, like why can’t we do this? Instead of any substance though, the only response so far is empty dismissal with zero engagement.

      1. The counter argument is that the Communist Manifesto was published in 1848. That means we are in the 174th consecutive year of awaiting the imminent collapse of Capitalism. We are also coming up on the 33rd anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the 31st anniversary of the collapse of the USSR; a country that was so committed to implementing Socialism that they literally stopped at nothing to do it.

        2. Uh no, they weren’t trying to implement Socialism and certainly not Democratic Socialism. The Soviet Union was working on Communism which is a different thing entirely, and it failed. The naysayers will also point to Venezuela and say that their Socialism isn’t working and so it won’t work here as well!! Waaaaaah! Except that was badly implemented SOCIALISM! Setup to benefit the rich and the common folk. Not Democratic Socialism which is what people like Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and others are trying to make work here. But instead of providing actual factual arguments against it the naysayers are using every logical fallacy in the book, and inventing more when no one is looking, to say no it won’t work.

Let’s forget all of that . . . Why can’t we try it? You say it won’t work and I say it might if people will just give it a chance. Is there any reason why it wouldn’t? Why we shouldn’t try it? Do you have any argument other than ‘its been tried before in other places and times by stupid people and it didn’t work then.’ If you don’t then I say YOU are the problem. YOU do not wish to see a better world and YOU are a coward unwilling to try.

Wanna prove me wrong? Get to work on it. Come up with an actionable plan and put it into action. Otherwise shut up and sit down.
